The voices
This is a British-accent site that happens to have two Australian voices, so here they are. Hyperion is a warm, caring male voice that works well for friendly narration. Theia is a female voice described by the provider as expressive, polite and sincere, which suits explainers and customer-service lines. Both run on the newer Aura-2 model and are labelled Australian English by the provider.
They are not British. If you came for a British voice, the main generator has four.
What an Australian accent sounds like
Australian English sits close to some British accents in structure. It is non-rhotic, so “car” loses its R at the end of a word, and it shares a good deal of vocabulary. The vowels are what give it away: “day” leans towards “dye”, and “no” moves forward in the mouth. Sentences often finish with a gentle rise, and everyday speech shortens words aggressively. Afternoon becomes arvo, breakfast becomes brekkie, and a service station is a servo.
Honest limits
- These are natural, mainstream Australian voices, not comedy ones. You will not get the stretched vowels of a sketch show.
- There is no regional variety, whether Queensland, Victorian or rural. One voice, one flavour.
- Slang spellings get read as they are written, so test slang lines and adjust.

|---|---|
| arvo | afternoon |

Tips for natural reads
Write short, casual sentences. Contractions (“I’ll”, “she’ll”) sound more natural than formal phrasing. Commas set the pace, and a full stop gives a clear stop. If you plan to lean on slang, use no more than one or two terms per sentence, or the line starts to sound like a tourism ad. Questions people ask
Is there a real Australian voice in this generator?
Yes, two: Hyperion (male) and Theia (female), both listed by the voice provider as Australian English. They sit on the green signs in the voice list.
Is Australian the same as British?
No. Both are non-rhotic and share a lot of vocabulary, but Australian English has its own vowels and rhythm. That is why we show it separately and do not call it British.
Does it do a broad Aussie accent?
Not a comedy one. Expect a natural, mainstream Australian delivery rather than a “Crocodile Dundee” caricature.
Which spelling should I use for Australian?
Australian spelling follows British patterns: colour, centre, realise. The Britishify switch gets you most of the way there, although Australians use some words differently (“arvo” for afternoon, “brekkie” for breakfast).
Can I download an Australian clip?
Downloads sit on the paid plans, which are not open yet. For now you can listen in the browser, free.
